There’s nothing in the world quite like the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the kitchen. If you know me, you’ll know I have a serious obsession with hot bread straight from the oven. That golden crust, the steam rising as you tear into it… it’s my weakness. Pair that with my other guilty pleasure—Biscoff spread—and I’ve got myself a love affair I’ll never break up with.
But before I wander off into my cookie butter daydreams, let me tell you about this Twisted Nutella Bread. Think soft, pillowy bread rolled up with layers of gooey Nutella, then twisted into a show-stopping braid. It looks like it came straight from a fancy bakery, but it’s surprisingly simple to make at home. You can even swap the Nutella for Biscoff spread if you’re as hooked as I am—it makes for the most heavenly spiced bread you’ll ever taste.
Whether you use a bread maker or make it by hand, this recipe is pure comfort food magic.
Why You’ll Love Twisted Nutella Bread
- Bakery-Worthy at Home: It looks impressive, but it’s easy to master.
- Versatile: Switch Nutella for Biscoff, peanut butter, or even cinnamon sugar.
- Make with or Without a Bread Maker: Both methods give you fluffy, delicious results.
- Perfect for Sharing: Ideal for brunch, afternoon tea, or gifting (if you can resist eating it all first!).
- Hot Bread Heaven: Serve it warm, and it will melt in your mouth.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (whole or full-fat)
- 3 tbsp butter, cubed
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 5 tbsp milk powder
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup Nutella (or swap for Biscoff spread)
Method – Bread Maker Version
- Add the milk, butter, salt, sugar, milk powder, flour, and yeast into your bread maker.
- Select the “Raw Dough” setting to mix and knead.
- Once the cycle is complete, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Roll into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
- Spread Nutella (or Biscoff!) evenly across the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, seam side down.
- Slice the log lengthwise and twist the two halves, keeping the cut sides up to show the swirl.
- Place back into the bread maker pan (remove the paddle first).
- Select “Ferment” and allow it to rise for 1½ hours.
- Choose “Bake” and bake for 1 hour until golden.
- Cool slightly before slicing and devouring.
Method – Handmade (Oven) Version
- Warm the milk and stir in sugar and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in flour, milk powder, butter, and salt. Knead until soft and elastic (about 10 minutes).
- Cover and let rise until doubled in size (?1 hour).
- Punch down and roll into a rectangle.
- Spread Nutella or Biscoff spread over the dough.
- Roll tightly into a log and cut lengthwise.
- Twist the halves together and place on a lined baking tray.
- Cover and let rise again until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 180 °C / 350 °F. Brush with egg wash if desired.
- Bake 30–40 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Slice warm for ultimate indulgence.
Tips for Perfect Twists
- Warm Your Spread: Melt Nutella or Biscoff slightly so it spreads without tearing the dough.
- Don’t Overfill: Leave a little margin at the edges to prevent leaks.
- Add Extra Flavors: Sprinkle with chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or cinnamon sugar.
- Serve Warm: Reheat slices in the oven for that fresh-baked magic.
Biscoff vs. Nutella – My Favorite Twist
I’ll admit, I first made this bread with Nutella. But then curiosity (and my obsession) got the better of me, and I tried it with Biscoff spread. Friends, that was the day I stopped sharing. The spiced caramel swirl in the soft bread is unlike anything else—it’s comfort and indulgence rolled into one.
If you haven’t yet tried baking with Biscoff, grab a jar of Biscoff on Amazon or try making your own with this easy Homemade Cookie Butter Recipe.
This Twisted Nutella (or Biscoff) Bread is the recipe that makes people’s jaws drop when you bring it to the table. It’s soft, fluffy, gooey, and gorgeous to look at—everything a loaf should be. Best of all, it feeds my two greatest obsessions: fresh hot bread and that irresistible cookie butter swirl. Bake it once, and I promise, you’ll never look at plain bread the same way again.
