These super cute flower carrots are not only easy to make and a nice alternative to liven up a dish, but they give me a chance to talk about the great site, www.thekitchn.com, part of  “Apartment Therapy.” The site’s mission is to help us all make our homes more beautiful by linking us to resources, ideas and an online community. In addition to the foodie part, “thekitchn.com,” they have “re-nest.com” for a green home, “unplggd” for home tech stuff, and “ohdeedoh” for nursery info (yes, my rhyme was purposeful. sorry.) The main site, “Apartment Therapy,” “saving the world, one room at a time,” is also a must-see, and their are branches for several major cities. Like my own, DC, thank you very much.

Oh right. The carrots! Find the link on how to make carrot flowers here!

I was waiting for them, sure their arrival must be imminent. Bakerella’s famous cake pops dressed up as turkeys. I knew a fall or Thanksgiving theme was coming, but what would it be? Pilgrims? Cornucopias? Pumpkins? Turkeys, of course. The link to Bakerella’s turkey pops is found here. Her blog also offers the step by steps to make cake pops in all kinds of designs, as well. Just follow the links.

So simple. So comfy. Whisk: a food blog, brings us this sweet recipe for cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on toast, “toast dope” (a new phrase for me), or your latte. It’s also easy to spend some time (sipping your latte) on this Canada-based foodie blog. The writer is working her way through a cooking school curriculum with the help of the internet and Le Cordon Bleu at Home cookbook, so readers get to follow her journey. And as a bonus, she clearly has skills with food photography, too.

I believe every child should learn how to decorate with frosting as they learn how to color with a crayon. And I’m not just saying that because frosting bags take up such a huge part of my life. This site features indie crafters from around the world offering great products for kids and nice alternatives to chain store buys, so it’s easy to mill around there for awhile.

Candy Apple Recipes

November 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment

A google search for this Fall favorite will yield an endless supply of candy apple recipes, but I’ve listed a few here that I find particularly alluring. First, a nice basic caramel apple recipe from Hostess with the Mostess blog. Find a great, simple and detailed recipe from 101 Cookbooks. The recipe for Chocolate Caramel Apples from MyRecipes doesn’t require the use of a candy thermometer, as is the norm. They use melted caramels instead. And last but never least, Martha has a lovely recipe and video tutorial for Candy Apples. Of course. And I love her idea of using branches in lieu of lollipop or popsicle sticks.

Fortune cookies are definitely on my list of “things I want to learn how to bake.” Thank you to “The Good Mood Food Blog” for reminding me of my to-do list and inspiring me to start checking things off. This Dublin-based foodie offers nicely detailed instructions (with honesty, too, warning that the cookies are time consuming to make) and gorgeous photography to guide you. He gives step-by-steps and tips, so you’ll feel like he’s in your kitchen helping you. The best part is, you can write your own fortune.
