How To Dry Fruit Slices For Your Cocktails and Gin

January 30, 2022 by Shellie Wilson

So why are people adding dried fruit to their cocktails and Gin? It is all about the flavor but it looks amazing too.

You can take a plain gin or vodka or soda and add instant flavor just by adding different fruit to the base.  Dehydration intensifies the flavor of the fruit giving your drink a fruity burst.

The dried fruit garnishes can be stored in a firmly sealed glass jar, biscuit tin, or freezer bag for 3-4 weeks at room temperature, or longer in a cold, dark pantry.

So how can you dry them? We have added a few links below for different methods for drying out your fruit.

You can make your own dried fruit with simple supplies as a knife and oven, or use a dehydrator and mandolin for thin slices that truly crunch!

Dehydrated lemon is my favorite because it provides a fresh look to a cocktail as a garnish. Lemons retain their yellow color even when dried making them vibrant.

If you are looking for more depth of flavor you can add spices to the fruit drying process, such as – cinnamon and nutmeg with apple, rosemary with orange, vanilla, and star anise with pear, or dried red chili with mango. Experiment with flavors that you love to create the perfect cocktail, and let’s not forget to add the dried fruit to soda, juice or lemonade for a delicious summer mocktail or iced tea.

Did you also know you can add dried edible flowers too, Dried Lavender, Edible dried roses are also pretty to place on top of your cocktails or desserts.

Dried fruit also makes for a wonderful DIY handmade gift, filling a jar and add a label for a rustic cocktail addin. Perfect for gin nights!!

Do you know what else is good about dried fruit? Dehydrated fruit can remain packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre.

So what is my favorite fruit to dry? Lemons, I think they are the easiest and add the most punch to my drink. For the prettiest, I love drying my own rose petals from the garden and then crumbling them onto my drinks. Another popular one in our house is dried Pineapple to juice for the kids. No matter what your drink, you are sure to find a fruit you love to dry!

4th of July Cookie Ideas for Parties, BBQs, and Summer Celebrations

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about a plate of cookies at a summer party. Maybe it is because cookies do not need forks, plates, or anyone hovering nervously near a cake knife. You can pop them onto a tray, set them beside the lemonade, and let everyone help themselves between backyard games, barbecue plates, and that moment when someone inevitably asks, “What time do the fireworks start?”

These 4th of July cookie ideas are perfect for anyone who wants a festive dessert that feels fun, colourful, and easy to serve. We are talking red, white and blue cookies, patriotic sugar cookies, star-spangled sprinkles, flag cookie cakes, chocolate-covered Oreos, pinwheel cookies, and chewy cookie bars that travel beautifully to summer parties. They are also lovely for Memorial Day, Labor Day, school holiday picnics, neighbourhood cookouts, and those relaxed family gatherings where the food table becomes the real centrepiece.

I always think cookies are one of the smartest party desserts because you can bake most of them ahead, stack them in containers, and avoid the last-minute kitchen panic. And frankly, when you have teenagers wandering through the kitchen like snack-seeking raccoons, make-ahead treats are the only sensible plan. These patriotic cookie recipes give you plenty of options, whether you love a decorated cookie moment or just want something quick with sprinkles and M&M’s.

Irresistible 4th of July Treats, and if you enjoy edible gift-style projects, CraftBits has a sweet Valentine’s Day Cookie Bouquet idea that could easily be adapted with star-shaped cookies, red ribbon, blue tissue paper, and patriotic sprinkles.

Easy 4th of July Cookies to Bake and Share

4th of July Red, White and Blue Pinwheel Cookies
These pinwheel cookies are such a cheerful choice if you want something that looks impressive without needing piping bags and royal icing patience. The red, white, and blue swirls make them perfect for a patriotic cookie platter, and because they are slice-and-bake style, they feel tidy and party-friendly. I love these for a dessert table where you want height, colour, and a proper “oh, you made those?” moment.

Fourth of July Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is the sort of cookie recipe everyone actually eats, which is always worth remembering when planning a party dessert. These chocolate chip cookies are dressed up with red, white, and blue M&M’s, white chocolate chips, and sprinkles, so they still feel festive but not overly fussy. They would be perfect for BBQs, picnic baskets, or packing into little treat bags for guests to take home.

4th of July Sugar Cookies with Sprinkles
Soft sugar cookies with patriotic sprinkles are a classic for a reason. They are simple, colourful, kid-friendly, and easy to make in big batches, which is exactly what you want when the house is full and the oven is already working hard. These would also be a lovely option for baking with grandchildren or younger helpers who want to add “just a few more sprinkles.”

Patriotic Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies take a familiar chocolate chip cookie and give it a red, white, and blue twist. I like this idea because it feels festive without asking you to become a professional cookie decorator overnight. Add a few gold star sprinkles if you want them to look extra party-ready.

4th of July Cookies from Kroll’s Korner
These are soft, chunky, bakery-style patriotic cookies with that generous, loaded-cookie look that always does well on a dessert tray. They are a lovely pick if you want something a bit more substantial than a thin sugar cookie. Serve them slightly warm if you are hosting at home, or bake them earlier in the day and stack them on a red, white, and blue platter.

Red, White & Blue Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies are a sweet balance of homemade comfort and patriotic fun. The sprinkles give them that unmistakable 4th of July look, while the chocolate chip base keeps them familiar and crowd-pleasing. They are a great “safe bet” recipe when you are baking for mixed ages and do not want anything too unusual.

Patriotic Pinwheel Cookies
Pinwheel cookies always feel a little bit retro to me, in the best possible way. These red, white, and blue slice-and-bake cookies would look gorgeous arranged in rows on a white serving tray or tucked into little cellophane bags for party favours. They are especially good if you like your holiday baking to feel neat, colourful, and planned ahead.

Red, White + Blue Marbled Sugar Cookies
These marbled sugar cookies have that pretty handmade look that makes each cookie feel a little different. The red and blue glaze gives a softer, artsy finish compared with bold sprinkles, which is lovely if your party style leans more modern or slightly whimsical. They would be beautiful beside fresh berries, lemonade, and a simple summer table setting.

Patriotic Thumbprint Cookies with Vanilla Icing
Thumbprint cookies are wonderful for parties because they feel special but are still easy to pick up and eat. These have a tender cookie base, vanilla icing, and red, white, and blue decorations, making them a pretty addition to a patriotic dessert board. I would serve these alongside strawberries and blueberries for a fresh summer look.

4th of July Cookies and Cream Cookies
If your crowd loves cookies and cream, this is a fun one to add to the list. These cookies use Oreo chunks, M&M’s, and sprinkles for a colourful, chunky cookie that feels very party-table friendly. They are especially good for teenagers, because anything with Oreos tends to vanish quickly in my house.

American Flag Icebox Cookies
These American flag icebox cookies are a more detailed baking project, but they are a real showstopper. The flag design is built into the cookie dough, so each slice reveals the patriotic pattern. This is a brilliant choice if you want a make-ahead cookie that looks clever and polished.

Flag Cookie Recipe
This flag cookie is more of a cookie slab or shareable cookie dessert, which makes it perfect for a party table. It has that relaxed, rustic charm where you can slice it into squares or let guests break off pieces. I love this sort of dessert for casual entertaining because it feels generous and homemade without needing perfect decorating.

Classic Soft and Chewy American Flag Cookie Cake
A cookie cake is such a good choice when you want the drama of a decorated dessert but the ease of a cookie. This American flag version would make a lovely centrepiece for a 4th of July BBQ or fireworks party. Add it to the middle of the table, surround it with fresh berries, and you have an instant patriotic dessert spread.

4th of July Chocolate Covered Oreos
Chocolate-covered Oreos are one of those clever little party treats that look much harder than they are. With red, white, and blue candy melts and sprinkles, they become a quick patriotic dessert that is easy to make in batches. These are also handy if you do not want to turn the oven on during a hot summer day.

Patriotic Oreo Cream Cheese Balls
These Oreo cream cheese balls are rich, bite-sized, and perfect for a dessert tray where people want “just one more little thing.” They are no-bake, which is always a blessing during summer party season. Pop them into mini cupcake liners for a tidy, giftable look.

Simple Tips for a Pretty Patriotic Cookie Platter

For a really easy 4th of July dessert table, mix two or three cookie styles rather than trying to bake everything. A tray of soft sprinkle cookies, a batch of chocolate-covered Oreos, and one flag-style cookie cake gives you variety without turning the kitchen into a bakery.

Stick to a simple red, white, and blue palette with white serving platters, gingham napkins, berry bowls, and a few paper stars or small flags. If you are taking cookies to someone else’s party, layer them in a shallow box with parchment paper so they arrive looking pretty rather than like they survived a school lunchbox incident.

And remember, homemade does not have to mean complicated. A packet of Oreos dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with red and blue sugar can still feel thoughtful, festive, and completely party-worthy.
