15 Of The Best Vanilla Cookie Recipes

December 19, 2022 by arabella

As we savor the delectable treats that grace our modern tables, it’s fascinating to trace their origins back through the annals of history. The tantalizing tale of cookies unfolds in the 7th century AD Persia, a time when the use of sugar began to weave its way into the culinary fabric of the region. With each batch baked, a legacy was born – one that would travel across continents, evolve through cultures, and eventually arrive in our present-day kitchens.

These humble confections began their journey in Persia, capturing the allure of sugar as it emerged as a newfound delight. However, it was through the passage of time and the routes of conquest that cookies made their way to Europe. The Muslim conquest of Spain paved the way for the introduction of these sweet treasures to European shores. By the 14th century, cookies had woven themselves into the culinary tapestry of all levels of European society – from the opulence of royal feasts to the humble offerings of street vendors.

In the realm of cookies, vanilla reigns as a timeless favorite. Its delicate aroma and exquisite flavor have the remarkable ability to enchant and entice, without overwhelming the senses. Vanilla cookies, with their subtle allure, embody a balance that’s neither overly chocolatey nor excessively sweet. And while the name might suggest simplicity, the array of 15 cookie recipes that follow is a testament to the extraordinary diversity that vanilla can bring to your baking endeavors.

Making vanilla cookies with my family has always been one of my favorite things to do. From the moment I was old enough to stand on a chair and help, I was always eager to be a part of the process.

We would always start by gathering the ingredients: butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, and of course, the fragrant vanilla. My siblings and I would have a great time measuring out the ingredients and stirring them together. But the best part was when we would get to lick the spoon and bowl of batter.

Then came the fun of rolling out the dough and using the cookie cutters to make all sorts of shapes. We would always make the traditional circle and star shapes, but also get creative and make a few unique ones. My mom would be in charge of baking the cookies, making sure they were perfectly golden brown.

The house would be filled with the sweet smell of vanilla cookies and I couldn’t wait for them to be ready. As soon as they were done, we would all gather around the kitchen table and enjoy the delicious cookies that we had made together.

Making vanilla cookies with my family was always a special occasion. It not only allowed us to enjoy a sweet treat together but also to spend quality time with each other. As I grew older, the tradition of making vanilla cookies with my family has continued and I look forward to it every year.
