I have posted quite a few ideas and recipes for cooking and working with food together with kids, I thought that it’s about time to post some reminders about being safe in the kitchen.Â
Before you begin, it is very important to read the recipe to your children, of have them read it to you. Make sure that you have any ingredients and equipment needed and plan which tasks you will each be doing.Â
I don’t have to mention that you shouldn’t leave your children unsupervised in the kitchen, they shouldn’t use sharp knives, stoves, etc. etc. etc. right?Â
Make sure that small children can reach the cooking area, either by bringing the work area lower, or by letting them stand on a chair or stool, as long as they can balance on it. Also, move all sharp and hot equipment out of their reach. Now would be a good time to teach the children about the kitchen equipment and the rules of your kitchen. Â
Ready to begin? First wash your hands well with soap and water. If you have an apron, put it on or make sure to be wearing old clothes that you won’t mind dirtying.Â
Also, make sure to wash your hands always before and after working with raw meat, poultry, egg, and fish products because these foods can contain bacteria. Â
Now you are ready to start.Â
Safe cooking to all!
