One crucial prop from “The Dogs of Babel,” a book by an alumna of my MFA program, Carolyn Parkhurst, is a hardboiled egg shaper. This garage sale find shaped eggs into squares. That tidbit has stayed with me long after I read the book, so perhaps that’s why my interest perked when I glimpsed these egg shapers for the bento box. (What is a bento box you might ask? Common in Japanese cuisine, it’s a box that contains a single, visually appealing meal.) check out JBox.com for bento box inspiration. In addition to these rabbit and bear egg shapers, they also have a fish and a car and even a Hello Kitty set.
And everything you wanted to know about bento boxes can also be found at the blog “Lunch in a Box.” She offers lots of answers, tips, links, recipes and stores for goodies.

I just bought my first set of bento supplies last week and I’ve been considering egg molds. I like the fun shapes they come in, however I’m not much of an egg eater.
