Air Fryer Bacon Recipe (Perfectly Crispy Every Time)

January 12, 2026 by Shellie Wilson

Let’s talk bacon for a minute. Not the “special occasion” bacon. I mean the Tuesday morning, half-awake, coffee-in-hand bacon. The kind you want crispy, quick, and without scrubbing grease off the stovetop afterward.

If you haven’t tried cooking bacon in the air fryer yet, this might just change how you make breakfast forever. I was skeptical at first (because bacon in a basket felt… wrong?), but after one go, I was hooked. No splatter. No flipping hot strips in a pan. No oven trays covered in grease. Just crispy, golden bacon that cooks evenly and cleans up fast.

This is one of those quiet little kitchen wins that makes life feel easier.

Why Air Fryer Bacon Just Makes Sense

Air fryers are brilliant at one thing: circulating hot air evenly. Bacon loves that. Instead of sitting in its own grease, the fat renders away while the bacon crisps up beautifully.

Here’s why this method earns a permanent place in my routine:

  • No stovetop splatter
    • No added oil
    • Even cooking without babysitting
    • Works for thick or thin cut bacon
    • Cleanup takes about 30 seconds

It’s especially great if you’re cooking for a family and don’t want your kitchen smelling like bacon for three days straight (although… sometimes that’s not a bad thing).

What You’ll Need

That’s it.
No oil. No seasoning. Bacon already knows what it’s doing.

You can use:
– Thin cut bacon
– Regular streaky bacon
– Thick cut bacon

Just know the thicker the slice, the longer it’ll need.

How to Cook Bacon in the Air Fryer (Step by Step)

1. Preheat the Air Fryer

Set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and let it heat for a couple of minutes. Starting hot helps the bacon crisp instead of slowly rendering and going floppy.

2. Lay the Bacon in the Basket

Place the bacon in a single layer. The strips can touch, but don’t pile them on top of each other. If they overlap too much, they steam instead of crisp.

If your bacon is long, it’s totally fine to cut it in half so it fits neatly.

3. Cook Until Golden

Cooking time depends on thickness and how crispy you like it:

– Thin or regular bacon: 7–10 minutes
– Thick cut bacon: 10–14 minutes

Flip halfway through if you want really even browning, especially with thicker slices.

Keep an eye on it during the last few minutes — bacon can go from perfect to overdone quickly.

4. Drain and Serve

Once it looks just right, lift the bacon out and place it on paper towels to soak up any extra fat.

That’s it. Bacon perfection.

Little Tips That Make a Big Difference

If your air fryer smokes:
Bacon releases a lot of fat. If your fryer tends to smoke, lower the temp slightly to 180°C (350°F) or place a slice of bread under the basket to catch the drips.

For extra crisp bacon:
Leave it in for an extra minute or two — just watch closely.

Cooking in batches:
If you’re feeding a crowd, drain the grease between batches for best results.

Don’t line the basket with foil:
It blocks airflow and can move around while cooking. Let the air fryer do its thing.

How Crispy Is “Right”? That’s Up to You

One of the best things about air fryer bacon is how customizable it is.

If you like it:
– Soft and chewy ? pull it early
– Crispy edges but bendy center ? mid-range timing
– Fully crisp ? let it go a minute longer

You’ll quickly learn your sweet spot.

Storing and Reheating Leftover Bacon

If you somehow end up with leftovers:

To store:
Let the bacon cool completely, then keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4–5 days.

To reheat:
Pop it back in the air fryer at 170–180°C (350–360°F) for 2–3 minutes. It crisps right back up without going dry.

Easy Ways to Use Air Fryer Bacon

This bacon isn’t just for breakfast (although it’s perfect there).

Try it:
– In BLTs or breakfast sandwiches
– Crumbled over salads
– Chopped into pasta or mac and cheese
– Wrapped around veggies
– On baked potatoes with sour cream

I often cook a batch just to have on hand for the week. It disappears faster than I expect.
