I can’t explain what possessed me to google Morton Salt and visit their site. Random, I know. (OK, I can explain, I love vintage ads and kitchenware, so I was on a hunt for the vintage Morton Salt packaging.) But I digress.. their site has loads of information: Salt history and facts, household tips, recipes, even how-tos for curing your own meat. But they also have crafts… Download a pdf of instructions to create dough sculpture , learn how to paint on salt, and create clay HERE. And I did find some vintage appeal.

If you are looking for an airdrying clay as an alternative I highly recommend Das Airdrying white clay I have been using it for over 30 years and it never fails me.

The photo grabbed my attention, I have a copy of that booklet from the late ’70s or early 80s with some very “retro” projects in it. I’ll have to check out the new version and see if they have updated it. Salt dough is a great, inexpensive craft medium!
