Mulling Spice Infused Honey – A Cozy DIY Christmas Gift in Jars

December 15, 2025 by Shellie Wilson

There’s something magical about Christmas spices — cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and orange peel simmering away and making the whole house smell like the holidays. This Mulling Spice Infused Honey recipe captures that warmth in a jar. It’s the perfect little homemade gift for neighbors, teachers, or anyone who appreciates something thoughtful and edible.

Infused honeys are wonderful because they’re easy to make, last a long time, and instantly feel more luxurious than plain honey. Add a printable “handmade with love” tag, tuck the jar into a basket or stocking, and you’ve got yourself a festive food gift that looks boutique-worthy without the boutique price.

Why You’ll Love This DIY Honey Gift

  • Simple ingredients – just honey and spices you already have in the pantry.
  • Long shelf life – honey is naturally preserved, so this keeps well.
  • Beautiful presentation – clear jars let the golden glow shine through.
  • Versatile use – drizzle over baked brie, stir into tea, or serve with scones.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 2 cups good quality honey (local raw honey is best)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom pods (optional but lovely)
  • 1 star anise (for flavor and a pretty jar garnish)
  • 1 strip dried orange peel (or fresh if using quickly)

How to Make Mulling Spice Infused Honey

  1. Warm the honey – Place honey in a small saucepan over the lowest heat. You don’t want it to boil, just gently warm until it’s more fluid.
  2. Add the spices – Stir in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, cardamom, and orange peel. Keep on very low heat for 15–20 minutes so the flavors can mingle.
  3. Cool and infuse – Remove from heat and allow the honey to cool slightly. Leave the spices in while the honey continues to infuse. For a stronger flavor, let it sit 24–48 hours before straining.
  4. Strain (optional) – For a clear look, strain out the whole spices. For a rustic, decorative jar, leave one or two pretty pieces like star anise or a cinnamon stick inside.
  5. Jar it up – Pour into sterilized glass jars while warm. Wipe rims clean, seal, and let cool completely.

Gifting Ideas

  • Mini jars with printable tags – A 4 oz jar is the perfect size for a stocking stuffer or teacher gift.
  • Pair with tea bags – Gift alongside a tin of loose-leaf tea or holiday spiced black tea.
  • Holiday cheese board – Add a jar to a basket with crackers, brie, and nuts for a ready-to-serve hostess gift.

Tip: Print out rustic kraft-style tags that say “Mulling Spice Infused Honey – Handmade for You” and tie them on with twine or red ribbon.

How to Use Mulling Spice Infused Honey

  • Stir a spoonful into hot cider or mulled wine.
  • Drizzle over oatmeal or yogurt for a festive breakfast.
  • Brush onto roasted ham or carrots for a sweet-spiced glaze.
  • Spread on toast with butter for a cozy winter treat.

This Christmas infused honey recipe is the kind of gift that feels extravagant but only takes minutes to make. The scent alone will make your kitchen smell like the holidays. Batch it up in little jars, print some tags, and you’ve got an instant lineup of thoughtful, homemade gifts ready for Christmas gifting.
