How To Make Influenza Sore Throat Whiskey Sorbet

May 1, 2016 by Carolyn Bickford

Maybe they were on to something back in the days, when they fed you whiskey or bourbon for the cold. Pretty sure a shot of either would of help with sleep and definitely would have killed everything on the inside. This sorbet would be perfect for that sore throat and you can add or leave out the bourbon. Scrumptious and Sumptuous shares how this recipe came about along with the recipe.

Click here on Scrumptious and Sumptuous for the recipe and background to the recipe.

Here is an immunity e-book we put together to show you how you can increase your immunity at home DIY style.  It covers managing stress and healthy eating, all of which play important roles in making sure you don’t get colds or flu. Don’t forget your morning Immunity Defense gummy vitamins too. I take mine daily to pick up any dietary shortfall I might have. Having a strong immunity system allows you to recover from the flu quickly and easily. I just don’t have time to be sick, as a mother of teenagers who still can’t drive, It is all go, go ,go in our house.

My Favorite Salty Keto Mayonnaise Recipe

I’ll be honest — once I started making my own mayonnaise at home, I never looked back. Especially on keto, where mayo isn’t just a spread… it’s basically a food group. This version is rich, salty, and smooth, and I make a fresh jar almost every week. It’s perfect for everything from egg salad to dipping keto crackers, and honestly? I’ve been known to sneak a spoonful straight from the jar.

This salty mayo has a little extra flavor thanks to garlic and Dijon, and you can tweak the saltiness to your taste. It’s fast, foolproof, and doesn’t have any weird ingredients or fillers.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg (room temperature)

  • 1 cup avocado oil (or light olive oil)

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional but recommended)

  • ¾ tsp sea salt (I sometimes go up to 1 tsp)

  • Optional: pinch of white pepper or smoked paprika

How to Make It:

  1. Add everything to a clean, wide-mouth jar or tall container.

  2. Place a stick blender at the bottom and blend on high without moving it for about 15 seconds.

  3. As the mixture thickens, slowly tilt and lift the blender to finish emulsifying.

  4. Taste it — add more salt if needed. Store in the fridge for up to a week.

A Few Tips:

  • If your mayo breaks (turns runny), just add another egg and blend again.

  • For a fun variation, mix in a bit of chili powder or everything bagel seasoning.

  • Always use fresh eggs from a trusted source.

This mayo is smooth, bold, and just salty enough to make every keto meal feel like a treat. Try it once — it might become one of your kitchen staples too.

Let me know if you try it! I love hearing how others put their own spin on it.
