Must-Have Candy for Gingerbread Houses:
Whether you’re making a gingerbread creation for the first time, or participating in an annual holiday tradition, be sure to stock up on candy for gingerbread houses. From candy buttons to chocolate rocks, these sweet essentials will make you well-equipped to design a charming gingerbread house.
Candy Buttons – These colorful old-fashioned candy buttons are perfect for decorating the roof of a gingerbread log cabin or lining the pathway up to the front door. Dress up a gingerbread family using the candy buttons for their shirts and dresses. Dot the flat side with icing and adhere them to any gingerbread surfaces.
Nonpareils – Tiny round rainbow nonpareils make a gorgeous trimming for roofs, windows and doors. They are also great for creating the appearance of delicate, multi-colored roof shingles. Rainbow nonpareils add a fun touch of bright color to any winter wonderland.
Chocolate Rocks – These unbelievably realistic-looking milk chocolate rocks will create an adorable cobblestone path for a countryside cabin. Chocolate pebbles can also help hold up a lamp post or fence, as long as you don’t gobble them up first!
Shimmer Pearls – Shimmery fruit-flavored candy pearls will make any winter scene glisten. White shimmer pearls accentuate the look of a snow-frosted gingerbread roof, while colors like lavender, pink, blue and green add merriment to the front yard, windows and doors.
Liquorice Wheels – Vibrant red licorice wheels unravel into sturdy rope you can use to design a red shingle roof for your gingerbread abode. The licorice strings can also be used for a brick chimney, which no gingerbread house should be without during the chilly wintertime.
M&Ms – Going with a color theme for your gingerbread house? M&Ms in over 25 different colors are ideal for decorating because they can do just about anything you need them to, whether that’s accenting a doorway or embellishing a wreath.
