Sometimes the smallest detail on a holiday table is the one everyone remembers. These Ferrero Rocher Thanksgiving turkeys turn a wrapped chocolate into a cheerful little favour, complete with a tulle tail and a wonderfully silly turkey face.
I love the idea of placing one beside each guest’s napkin. They bring a handmade touch to the table without needing a large centrepiece, and you can add a name tag if you’re arranging seats.
The project comes from Lynn at Happier Than a Pig in Mud. Visit her Ferrero Rocher turkey tutorial for the original instructions.
Materials
- Individually wrapped Ferrero Rocher chocolates
- 9-inch tulle circles
- Brown or tan pipe cleaners
- Red and tan or gold felt
- Small googly eyes
- Craft glue and scissors
- Optional paper name tags
How to Make the Turkey Favours
This overview follows Lynn’s construction method.
- Position a wrapped chocolate slightly off-centre on the tulle.
- Gather the fabric behind it to create an upright tail. Secure with a short pipe-cleaner piece.
- Curl one end of a roughly 3-inch brown pipe cleaner into a head, then bend the remaining length into a neck.
- Attach the neck to the front of the tulle-covered body.
- Add a felt beak, red wattle and googly eyes. Allow the glue to dry.
Keep the chocolate sealed throughout. The tulle, glue, felt, eyes and pipe cleaners are decorative craft materials; remove them and the wrapper before eating.
Add a Personal Touch
Use a small handwritten tag to turn each favour into a place marker. Cream card and brown lettering would look lovely alongside the gold foil, especially on a table with linen napkins and autumn colours.
If you’re making a whole table’s worth, prepare the felt pieces and name tags first. Arranging the materials in little piles makes the assembly easier to manage.
These small favours are a lovely excuse to spend an evening making something for the people gathering around your table. Each turkey can have its own slightly crooked neck or oversized tail—that little bit of personality is part of the charm.
Would love to have this little guy show me my seating at the dinner table! This year I’m going to do more than just the food on the table. Besides having good looking meals, you need to have a decent table setting and decor. These cute little Ferror Rocher guys can be placed on each person’s plate to let them know where to sit and you can have some on a plate at the dessert table.
