Easy Candy Cane Cookies

October 2, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

Ingredients:

1 package Sugar Cookie Mix

1 egg

1/2 cup softened butter

5 Tablespoons of flour

Red food dye

In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, cookie mix, and one egg until the mixture forms a tacky batter. Add in three tablespoons of flour and mix until it’s no longer sticky. Separate the dough into two equal sections, and place in separate bowls.

In one bowl of dough, add red food dye until you reach the desired color of red. Mix until there are no longer any white streaks of dough left.

Add in two tablespoons of flour to the red dough to compensate for the red food coloring you added. Grease a cookie sheet with butter and set it aside.

Pinch out quarter size balls of dough from each bowl. Flour your hands, and rub the dough between your palms until you form a rolled stick-like shape. Carefully twist the red and white dough together to make a shape that looks like a barber pole.

As you lay them on the cookie pan, curve one end so it looks like a candy cane. They will spread slightly while cooking, so keep that in mind when making the hook on the end of the candy cane. Leave 1-2 inches of space between each cookie for ease of removal from the pan. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes, or until slightly golden on the bottom edges.

Allow the cookies to cool completely before removing them from the pan. The cookies will stay soft and moist. Carefully remove them from the pan using a spatula for best results.
