If you’re looking for a fun and festive Fourth of July candy idea, these homemade red, white, and blue lollipop suckers are such a sweet little project for summer celebrations. They’re bright, patriotic, easy to wrap, and perfect for handing out at a 4th of July picnic, backyard BBQ, classroom party, parade day treat, or fireworks night dessert table.
Homemade lollipops always feel a bit more special than store-bought candy, don’t they? And these ones are wonderfully simple: clear hard candy, cherry flavoring, and a cheerful sprinkle of red, white, and blue nonpareils. No fancy baking skills required — just a lollipop mold, a candy thermometer, and a little patience while the sugar works its magic.
These DIY Fourth of July lollipops are also a great make-ahead edible craft. Wrap them in clear treat bags, tie them with ribbon, and you’ve got a cute patriotic party favor that looks like you spent far more time on it than you actually did. My favorite kind of holiday project, honestly. For more festive ideas, you might also like our red, white and blue sweet treats or these easy 4th of July treats made from store-bought candy.

2 Tablespoons water
1 teaspoon cherry flavoring
Red, white and blue nonpareil sprinkles

3. In a heavy bottomed pot, combine your sugar, light corn syrup and water and mix well.

4. Bring your ingredients to a boil on medium heat stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula for about 7 minutes or until the temperature reaches 310° using a candy thermometer (caution this will be very hot).
5. Carefully (this will be very hot) pour your melted candy into your lollipop molds, let’s set for a few minutes and transferred to the freezer for another 10 minutes.

6. Carefully pop your suckers out.
