15 Irresistible Chocolate And Date Recipes For Naturally Sweet Treats

date-chocolate-recipes-easy-healthy-snack-protein-volume-eating

There are certain ingredient pairings that simply make sense, and chocolate and dates are right up there with tea and biscuits, yarn and a comfortable chair, or me and buying craft supplies I absolutely did not go into the shop for.

Dates have that naturally rich, sticky, almost caramel-like flavour that makes them wonderfully useful in desserts. Add chocolate, and suddenly something as simple as a dried fruit becomes a proper little treat. Chocolate and date recipes can be fudgy, chewy, crunchy, creamy or delightfully messy, depending on what you are in the mood to make.

Medjool dates are especially useful for these recipes because they are soft, plump and easy to fill, squash or blend. They can be stuffed with peanut butter, covered in melted chocolate, blended into brownies or turned into the sticky base for no-bake bars and energy bites. I usually remove all the stones at once before starting because finding one halfway through the food processor is a mistake you generally only make once.

This collection includes chocolate-covered dates, date bark, chocolate date brownies, cakes, slices, truffles and quick no-bake snacks. Some lean towards wholesome afternoon-snack territory, while others are rich enough to serve with coffee after dinner. There are also several vegan, gluten-free and refined-sugar-free chocolate date recipes, although you should always check individual ingredient labels when cooking for allergies.

For another easy homemade treat, take a look at CraftGossip’s collection of easy no-bake slices to make and gift. It includes a simple chocolate date bite that would be lovely tucked into a homemade Christmas treat box.

Easy Chocolate-Covered Dates And Stuffed Date Recipes

Chocolate Covered Dates Stuffed With Peanut Butter

These chocolate-covered stuffed dates have all those familiar peanut, caramel and chocolate flavours we love in a chocolate bar, but they are made with a handful of simple ingredients. They are especially good kept in the freezer, where the chocolate becomes crisp while the date stays wonderfully chewy.

Peanut Butter And Chocolate Stuffed Dates

This quick stuffed-date recipe is naturally vegan and gluten-free, making it a handy option when you need a treat for a mixed group. They take only a few minutes to assemble, although I would make more than you think you need because these have a habit of disappearing every time someone opens the fridge.

Four-Ingredient Date Snickers

These popular Date Snickers are filled with peanut butter and nuts before being finished with dark chocolate. They are easy enough for an everyday snack but still feel indulgent, especially with a little sprinkle of flaky sea salt across the top.

Almond Joy Stuffed Dates

Coconut, almonds, dates and dark chocolate come together in these Almond Joy-inspired treats. I love that they look quite special once dipped, so they could easily be arranged in small paper cases and added to a homemade chocolate box.

Tahini-Stuffed Chocolate Dates

Tahini gives these stuffed dates a rich, slightly savoury flavour that stops the chocolate from becoming overly sweet. Sesame seeds and coconut add texture, making these a lovely grown-up alternative to the usual peanut butter filling.

Almond Butter Stuffed Dates With Chocolate

These four-ingredient chocolate dates are filled with almond butter and finished with dark chocolate and sea salt. They are simple, tidy and just the right size for that mid-afternoon moment when you fancy something sweet with a cup of tea.

Chocolate Date Bark And No-Bake Bar Recipes

Peanut Butter And Dark Chocolate Date Bark

Date bark is one of those internet recipes that is actually worth making. Flattened dates form the chewy base, with peanut butter and dark chocolate layered over the top before everything is chilled and broken into pieces.

Easy Chocolate Date Bark

This version combines Medjool dates with peanut butter, almonds, dark chocolate and sea salt. It has a lovely mix of chewy, creamy and crunchy textures and would be easy to customise with pistachios, toasted coconut or crushed pretzels.

Fudgy Tahini Date Chocolate Bars

These fudgy refrigerator bars combine cocoa, tahini, coconut oil and chopped dates. The tahini adds richness without overpowering the chocolate, and the chopped dates create little pockets of chewy caramel-like sweetness.

Dark Chocolate Espresso Date Oat Bars

Coffee and chocolate are always good friends, and these oat bars add a gooey date filling to the arrangement. They have a crumbly oat base and topping, making them feel more like a proper café slice than an energy snack.

Healthy Brownie Granola Bars

These naturally sweetened chocolate granola bars use dates to hold together oats, nuts and cocoa. They are freezer-friendly and sturdy enough for lunch boxes, road trips or those mornings when breakfast somehow gets pushed halfway into the day.

Chocolate Peppermint Slice

This layered chocolate peppermint slice has a base made with almonds, coconut, cacao and Medjool dates. The minty filling makes it especially lovely for Christmas, although I certainly would not object to a piece at any other time of year.

Chocolate Date Brownies, Cakes And Truffles

Super Easy Date Brownies

These rich chocolate brownies use dates for sweetness and have the dense, fudgy texture brownie lovers are usually hoping for. They are a clever way to use a forgotten packet of dates from the back of the pantry without making another traditional date loaf.

Dark Chocolate Date Cake

This tender chocolate cake includes dates in the sponge and is topped with a German chocolate-inspired frosting. It is the sort of cake I would make for a family gathering when a tiny energy ball simply is not going to satisfy the chocolate lovers at the table.

Ten-Minute Date-Sweetened Chocolate Truffles

These fudgy chocolate truffles are naturally sweetened with dates and take around ten minutes to prepare. Roll them in cocoa, coconut or finely chopped nuts, then pop them into paper cases for an easy handmade gift that looks much more complicated than it really is.

Chocolate Date Energy Balls For Quick Snacking

Chocolate Energy Balls

These chocolate date balls taste remarkably like small brownie bites but are sweetened entirely with fruit. They are made with just a few ingredients and can be rolled in coconut or chopped nuts when you want to dress them up slightly.

Salted Date Brownie Energy Bites

With just six ingredients and no baking required, these brownie-inspired bites are ideal for busy weeks. A pinch of salt brings out the chocolate flavour, while the dates keep everything moist and chewy.

Mint Chocolate Energy Balls

Fresh peppermint gives these cashew, cacao and date energy balls a bright chocolate-mint flavour. They would be a lovely alternative to heavier Christmas sweets and are easy to make ahead for a party platter.

Five-Ingredient No-Bake Chocolate Cookie Bites

These quick bites combine dates, peanut butter, oats and cacao powder to recreate the flavour of a no-bake chocolate cookie. They require just one food processor, which means fewer dishes—and that always makes a recipe more appealing in my kitchen.

Tips For Making Chocolate And Date Recipes

Soft Medjool dates generally give the best texture for stuffing and blending. When your dates feel a little dry, cover them with hot water for five to ten minutes, then drain and pat them dry before using them.

Always check that every date has been pitted before adding it to a food processor. Even packets labelled pitted can occasionally contain a stray stone, and neither your appliance nor your teeth will thank you for trusting the label too enthusiastically.

For dipping and coating, melt chocolate slowly in short microwave bursts or over a bowl of gently simmering water. A small spoonful of coconut oil can help create a thinner, smoother coating, although too much may stop the chocolate from setting firmly at room temperature.

Most chocolate-covered dates, date bark and no-bake chocolate date recipes are best stored in the refrigerator. Many can also be frozen, making them ideal for preparing ahead and quietly hiding behind the frozen peas until you need a treat.

Chocolate and dates are proof that a dessert does not need a complicated ingredient list to feel special. Whether you begin with a tray of stuffed dates, a batch of fudgy brownies or a slightly unruly slab of date bark, there is plenty here to keep both the chocolate lovers and the snack drawer very happy.
