22 Sweet Treats Using Blueberries

January 30, 2023 by Shellie Wilson

As a child, I don’t have many memories of eating blueberries, but now that I am an adult, I have developed a deep love for them. They have become one of my favourite fruits and I find myself enjoying them in a variety of ways. Whether it be as a sweet snack, a topping for my yogurt or cereal, or as an ingredient in baking, blueberries have become a staple in my diet.

One of the ways I love to enjoy blueberries is by eating them frozen. They are perfect for those hot summer days where you just want a refreshing burst of sweetness. Simply pop a few frozen blueberries into your mouth and you’ll be transported to a world of deliciousness. The cold and sweet taste of the blueberries makes them the perfect treat on a hot day.

Another way I love to enjoy blueberries is by adding them to drinks. Whether it’s a cold summer drink or a hot blueberry tea, the addition of blueberries can add a whole new dimension of flavor to your drink. The sweetness of the blueberries balances perfectly with the bitterness of the tea and creates a delicious drink that is perfect for any time of the day.

Blueberry Iced Tea Recipe

Ingredients:

6 black tea bags
4 cups boiling water
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups cold water
Ice cubes
Fresh blueberries and lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions:

Steep the tea bags in 4 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and add the blueberries and sugar to the tea. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Pour the mixture through a strainer into a large pitcher to remove the blueberries.
Add the cold water to the tea and stir.
Chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
Serve the tea over ice with fresh blueberries and lemon slices for garnish, if desired.
Enjoy your refreshing and fruity blueberry iced tea!

In addition to eating blueberries on their own, I also love to incorporate them into my baking. One of my favourite treats to make is blueberry chocolate. These delicious treats are the perfect combination of bitter and sweet and are perfect for late-night snacking. The juicy sweetness of the blueberries pairs perfectly with the rich, dark chocolate creating a flavour explosion in your mouth with every bite. Simply melt chocolate and coat the blueberries.  If you want a ready-made version this is my absolute favorite- Blueberry Chocolates.

Blueberries are not only delicious but they are also incredibly good for you. They are packed full of antioxidants and vitamins that are essential for maintaining a healthy body. Antioxidants help to protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals and can help to prevent many diseases. Blueberries also contain a high level of vitamin C which is important for maintaining a strong immune system.

Blueberries have become a staple in my diet. Whether it be eating them frozen for a refreshing burst of sweetness, adding them to drinks for a new flavour dimension, or incorporating them into my baking, blueberries are a fruit that I have come to love. So next time you’re looking for a sweet and healthy snack, grab a handful of blueberries, you won’t be disappointed.
