Making gingerbread men with my children was always one of my favorite family traditions. Every year, as the holidays approached, we would gather in the kitchen to start the process of making gingerbread men. I’d pull out all of the ingredients and preheat the oven as my children excitedly watched. We’d mix the dough together, adding a pinch of nutmeg, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a tablespoon of freshly grated ginger. After rolling out the dough, we’d cut out the gingerbread men shapes with cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet.
As the gingerbread men were baking, the aroma of freshly-baked cookies filled the air. My children’s eyes lit up with anticipation as I opened the oven door. Once the gingerbread men were finished baking, we’d carefully place them on a cooling rack. The next step was the best part—decorating the gingerbread men! We’d pull out the colorful sprinkles, icing, and candies, and my children would have a blast decorating their gingerbread men.
After all of the hard work, we’d sit down at the kitchen table and enjoy our creations. Over the years, this tradition has become even more special as my children have grown older. Although we don’t make gingerbread men every year anymore, it’s still a fond memory that I’ll always cherish. Making gingerbread men with my children will forever be a timeless tradition in our family.
