If you’ve never made one before, a pressed sandwich is exactly what it sounds like: a generously filled sandwich that’s gently squished (pressed) together so all those delicious flavours meld into one compact, satisfying bite. The result? A sturdy, full-flavoured sandwich that travels beautifully without falling apart, going soggy, or sliding out the moment you unwrap it.

Pressed sandwiches are ideal for Easter picnics, neighbourhood get-togethers, school holiday outings, and even packed lunches. They’re especially perfect for springtime events where food needs to be made ahead, packed up, and carried to a park, beach, or backyard picnic table. No plates required, no last-minute prep, and no crumbly disasters—just easy, reliable picnic food that everyone loves.

I’ve taken pressed sandwiches everywhere—from flights and ferry rides to long car trips and full-day outings. Wrapped tightly, they hold together incredibly well and are still fresh and flavourful hours later. In fact, pressing the sandwich is what makes it better. The ingredients settle, the bread absorbs just enough flavour, and everything stays neatly in place when it’s time to eat.

My best tip? Pressed sandwiches need time. Wrap them tightly and let them rest in the fridge or cooler for at least 3–4 hours before serving. You can slice them before you leave and rewrap them snugly, or pack a small knife and cut them on the spot. Either way, they’re one of the best make-ahead picnic sandwiches you can prepare—especially for Easter when you want food that’s stress-free, portable, and perfect for sharing.

Then you top it with your fresh fruit afterwards so the bowl stays thick, cold, and spoon-worthy.

Why Yoghurt Works So Well in the Ninja Slushie Maker

Yoghurt freezes into a silky, firm slush — similar to soft-serve but healthier and lighter. Because the machine creates the icy texture itself (instead of relying on ice cubes), the mixture never becomes watery or gritty.

Just smooth, cold, creamy perfection you can decorate to your heart’s content.

The Basic Yoghurt Slush Base

Once you learn this base recipe, you can create endless flavour combinations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain or Greek yoghurt, chilled 
  • ½–1 cup milk of your choice (just enough to loosen the mixture) 
  • 1–3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional) 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) 

Method

  1. Stir all ingredients together until smooth. 
  2. Chill the mixture in the fridge until very cold.

Berries & Cream Smoothie Bowl

Use vanilla yoghurt as your base. Top with raspberries, strawberries, and a sprinkle of granola.

Tropical Coconut Bowl

Add a splash of coconut milk to the base. Top with mango, pineapple, kiwi, and toasted coconut flakes.

Chocolate Yoghurt Bowl

Mix 1 tablespoon cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder into the base. Top with banana slices and a peanut-butter drizzle.

Meal-Prep Tip

Prepare the yoghurt base the night before and store it in small jars.
