It’s an Orange, It’s a Candle

February 23, by Meaghan Mountford. 2 Comments

What an oh so clever use for an orange! The creative mom from “Mom in Madison” gives us the easy step-by-steps and accompanying photographs for making your own orange peel candles. And, I’ll say it again (apolgies for sounding like a broken record to those who regularly read my column), once again, this blogger demonstrates the importance of fabulous photographs.

The blogger made the oranges for Imbolc, an Irish celebration at the beginning of February or early Spring, a precursor to Groundhog’s Day here in North America. Fire and light are key elements. So thank you, too, “Mom in Madison,” for introducing me to Imbolc. I of Irish descent had never even heard of Imbolc.

That is so cool. I imagine it would be possible to do the same thing with grapefruit or maybe lemons. Although I guess the lemon would pose a hazard since it would probably wobble.

Good point about the lemon! Maybe you could flatten the bottom a bit…
