Craft Gossip

This weekend we went on a baking spree. First we made muffins, lots and lots of different muffins, which was fun, and I got my younger daughter to help, so it was also some quality time. (It also worked out well because one of my best friends gave birth a few weeks earlier than expected, so we had some freshly baked muffins to take when we went to see the new baby).

Then, I got the whole family busy and we made some South African rusks.Â

 Â

South African rusks are a traditional food also known as beskuit, in Afrikaans. They are dry and hard (or twice-baked) and were originally prepared in
South Africa by the Dutch for traveling long distances in a hot climate. Rusks were a bread that wouldn’t spoil. Now, all over
South Africa, rusks are eaten as snacks, dipped in coffee, tea, or milk.
We made buttermilk rusks and used this highly recommended recipe which I found on recipezaar.com
