I love the wise old owl! This plain owl turns into a cute owl when decorated. I wanted to show you how easy it is to create the cake using two different size cake pans. I actually think I could make this cake!

Jessica at My Inner Need to Create takes us on the journey of making this owl cake instead of using an owl shaped pan. She also shows you how to decorate it. It is very cute decorated!

Love pickles and wish I had planted cucumbers this year! Luckily, I can go to the Farmer’s Market every weekend! I will pickup some cucumbers next weekend to try this recipe.

Becky from Grandma Bees shows us how to create the pickles using a non water bath canning method. In other words, these are meant to be eaten right away and not for long term storage. My kind of recipe! You can cut the cucumbers anyway you want. I like how she created some to put on your sandwich.

Let the kids help make these and teach them responsibility by having them rotate the jar each day.

Cake that you can make in the same pan and doesn’t need eggs, milk or butter!

It is called crazy or wacky cake and was created during the depression when it was hard to afford or find ingredients. I love how creative and resourceful those ladies were back in the day. I think I will do some more research and find other recipes that were created in the days of the depression and war.

Mary at Sweet Little Bluebird shares the recipe and several other flavored cake recipes for you to try. Of course, I will no longer have an excuse to not make cake because we ran out of eggs or milk.

The weather is getting cooler and fall will be here soon. To get into the spirit of fall, here is a quick and easy treat for breakfast or anytime snack.

Heidi at Honeybear Lane has taken the canned buttermilk biscuits and created donut holes out of them. This would be a fun treat to do with the kids. They can help you cut the biscuits and shake the bag to coat the donuts with sugar after cooked.

This Buffalo Crunch donut is a glazed-donut filled with tangy Buffalo sauce and is available till Monday at the New York State Fair.

I don’t know what’s worse – a mish-mash that doesn’t make sense or the fact that people are queuing up to buy it.

Would you eat it?

The Bento box lunch is the big craze. It is a cute and healthy lunch idea, but seriously who has time to be that creative in the morning. Especially if you are like me and don’t do mornings! Special occasions or once a week, maybe a creative lunch.

Emmy Mom shows us how to pack fun and healthy lunches for your kids or you. She uses the Ziploc Fresh Portions on the go containers to create her lunches. You can use her ideas or replace them with your family favorites. She has several listed and she also has another link to even more ideas.

My previous post on where to keep your butter got lots of people talking, with most people saying that they normally keep the butter on the counter at room temperature. So they never run into the classic issue of not being able to spread hard butter out of the fridge on toast in the morning.

But what about others that don’t want to keep butter on the counter?

Fear not, introducing the butter knife with a serrated grater built right into the knife for spreading the butter straight from the fridge!

What a genius idea. If you like it, then help these guys reach their goal on kickstarter here: The ButterUp project.

Cooler Corn
I still haven’t tried it yet, but I might try a smaller version for Labor Day Weekend. Corn that you cook in the cooler!
Apparently, it is well known in the camping community and the writer found out about it from his sister in Maine. I live in Maine and hadn’t heard of this till Pinterest. I apparently need to get out more.

Not much for a recipe, but here is the article from Bon Appetit. Take a clean cooler, put in corn and fill with boiling water. Let sit for 20 – 30 mins and you have perfect corn on the cob. It will last for 2 hours. Works great for big crowds at barbeques.

I think I will head out and buy a cooler for corn this weekend.

According to this post on Gizmodo, which validates what most French already know, the answer is a overwhelmingly — NO!

And if you are worried about butter going bad on the kitchen bench – the stats say that because butter is made from pasteurized milk, it takes a long time for it to go bad.

So in the meantime, you should enjoy the best of butter – spreadable, and yummy tasting. The Gizmodo post covers this topic in great detail and you should definately read it.

In the meantime, tell us if you keep your butter in the fridge or out on the bench in room temperature?

For me Labor Day weekend is the end of summer. I know it isn’t officially autumn till September, but it is the official end of the lazy days and kids are back to school.

We don’t have a party or picnic for Labor Day weekend, but we like to enjoy some quiet family time, before the hectic schedule begins. We will start off the weekend with this delicious dip created by Lemon Tree Dwelling that has my daughter’s favorite bacon! We don’t eat a lot of bacon, so this will be a treat. Plus, we are using turkey bacon. This will be a great dip for any occasion.

This project started off on kickstarter and was successfully funded, so you can now get your hands on it if you need a reminder every time you crave sugar.

With nearly 90% of Adult Americans admitting to drinking a cup of coffee everyday, there is no doubt that coffee is a must have item for you. Some drink it to start their day, some drink it to get a leg up over a mid morning slump.

Whatever your reasons, what is the best time to have a coffee and moreover, how much coffee should you be having?

A research by Harvard Medical School in 2004 revealed that instead of taking your coffee in one big gulp in the morning, it would be better if you took it in bite sized dozes throughout the day.

The bite size translates to about 2 oz. (quarter cup) of coffee every hour.

That amount will give you the maximum benefits of drinking coffee for the whole day!

With items like Meat Loaf on a stick, bacon wrapped Turkey, Pretzel Curds and S’mores Beer, the annual State fair of Minnesota is living up to its weird and wacky food reputation.

Most of these foods would be enough to fulfill your calorie requirements for a week, but what you eat at the fair stays at the fair, right?

I would like to go to the fair one time and experience these monstrosities (to cross of my bucket list), but I am not sure if my poor heart will forgive me for it.

If you have been, tell us what other foods you have eaten which are out of the ordinary!

Do you think the food is too much?
