I would never never use an egg carton for repackaging food!! Eggs are notorious carriers of salmonella. I’ve taken enough microbiology classes to steer clear of reusing any paper cartons with raw eggs in them!! If it isn’t able to be washed/disinfected DO NOT use it to hold other food!!

I agree that it would be best to use a plastic egg carton that is washable. The instance of salmonella in eggs is extremely rare, and the shell is a great protector, containing built-in barriers against bacteria, but it isn’t absolutely fool proof and the shell can–though rare–carry bacteria. Thank you for your suggestion!!

you can also use no-use carton eggs ! you can find it in shop that sells eggs at the piece. 😉
plastic eggs box is washable but less cute 😉

Why not place the cartons under a UV lamp for a bit, UV bulbs are cheap and are antimicrobial. Or spray cartons with homemade germicide using essential oils or extracts of ie Lavender, Lemon, Tea Tree, Oregano, Thyme, Calendula extract, natural vitamin E, Almond etc.
