Because I don’t have nearly enough blog jobs (side note, I just mis-typed “blog” as “glob,” I corrected it, but thought it noteworthy), I’m now assembling Ideabooks of cool product finds over at Houzz. Have you heard of Houzz? It’s a site that lets you browse kajillions of ideas for home decorating, building, design, etc. etc. and they are branching out into all kinds of directions, including DIY and such things. Cake Theater! New Site for Cake Decorators

Submit your cake and be a star! Check out this new site to showcase creative cakes, Cake Theater. For professionals, for hobbyists, for lurkers, for everyone, Cake Theater was created to offer a place that’s “well-organized, easy to use, and just fun,” according to the site. Sounds good to me. Gotta admit, with all the increased, crazy competition at food photo sharing sites of late, the welcoming,humor-sprinkled atmosphere at Cake Theater is rather refreshing. Also check out their blog, which I did, because in their submission, they said I “should check out the blog,” which posts on trends, how-tos, mishaps, and other bloggy stuff about cakes. Such as this so-cool (literally) frozen latte cake in a mug.

Do you know Yummly? With the tagline, “Every Recipe in the World,” sounds like a pretty comprehensive search engine for recipes. Shhh… New Secret Recipe Site

Well, now it’s all out in the open. And those out there looking for more involvement in the food blog universe best pay attention. The Secret Recipe Club is a new site from our very own Amanda, she of Amanda’s Cookin’, and she of all kinds of other web adventures.

Each month, you (yes you) are assigned one of the participating food bloggers, choose one of their recipes, make it and blog about it, unbeknownst to this blogger. This is a fantastic way to step out of your comfort zone, meet new bloggers, and be noticed by other foodies. New Site for Foodies: Gojee

This recipe site is premised on personalizing your recipe search based on what’s in your fridge and cupboard. As in, if you have flour, black pepper, and farm-swaddled pork loin in your kitchen, they have a recipe for you. (I didn’t make up that combination. They say that HERE.) I’m thus far impressed by the collection of food writers–varied, visually interesting, and supreme at what they do–and I always immediately trust a team of creators who describe themselves with self-deprecating humor. I just signed up and I’m looking forward to seeing what Gojee finds for me.

I have a longstanding history with Better Homes and Gardens. I swiped my mom’s magazines until I started having it delivered to my dorm room in college. More than a few years later, I still look forward to my magazine each month. And this obsession extends to the web site, as www.BHG.com is one of my first go-to sites for this column or when I need decorating tips, recipes, and holiday ideas. (As plants wither in my presence, I don’t take much advantage of the garden part, though.) So when I say I’m excited about the updated BHG site, it’s not just because they sent me the promotional material and free subscriptions to give away. I actually am excited.

Above is a glimpse of their new home page. CLICK HERE to visit the new BHG. The site has a new, fresh, clean design; every major category is accessible from the green bar on the home page to make the site easier to navigate; the food and recipe sections have been overhauled to help you quickly find what you need; you’ll find beautiful, larger images throughout; and the site is updated multiple times a day. As one who mines the internet for my job, I rely heavily on a site’s slideshows to quickly search for edible crafts. I’m always grateful for a well organized format that also offers the entire slideshow as thumbnails, and so few sites do this. Phew. BHG now does. (Really, I’m a slideshow nut, so this new and improved slideshow feature is a big one for me.)

You may have picked up on my “free subscriptions to give away” comment. Yes. BHG has given me some magazine subscriptions to give away. Five of them! Stay tuned… Details on how to enter are coming soon.

Well, look what I learned at the kitchn today: The recipe search engine Foodily pulls from both big sites and smaller bloggers and offers nutritional information, albeit automatically calculated so allow some room for error. Toys and Food Together at Last

Recipes, toys, collectibles and artwork all in one? It’s true. There does exist a place where all such things converge. Check out Play With My Food, where a “mild mannered toy collector by day” and a “crusader for a humane diet…also by day” creates food. Then scenes with toys and said food. Superheros are well-represented. {spotted on Foodiggity}

Yellow Cookies and Frosting for the Cause

Yellow, yellow, yellow. I had no idea Bridget of Bake at 350 had an obsession with this color. Please, please check out the awesome piano. (I keep pushing my 3-year old to adopt yellow as her favorite color, but she won’t budge on pink.) Bridget made these yellow themed cookies for a guest post at Frosting for the Cause.
